Giro has just released their new cycling clothing line targeted at urban riders and road cyclists. The New Road collection brings a range of higher end apparel products to Giro’s product line. Polos to jerseys, undershorts to waterproof jackets. The coolest thing about this new product line is that everything is made locally (for Giro, that is) in California. Giro planned this to have less of an impact on the environment by cutting the amount of transportation involved in building the clothing collection.
Alex Valdman (who has helped design clothing for Levi’s and GAP) helped put the clothing line together. All of the pieces in the collection can be used individually, but the real beauty comes when the items are paired (or tripled) together. Take for instance the bib undershorts and the jersey. The pockets in the bib undershorts can be accessed even when wearing the jersey through a cleverly designed zipper/pocket system.
The collection features a lot of Merino wool and the costs reflect that. Paired with the cost of domestic manufacturing and you’re looking at saving your pennies to get some of this nice gear. I’d save my money for it, though. The products look good, are very functional and are made domestically. A pretty good set of reasons to spend your hard earned cash on some new bike gear.
